If you’re a parent who has been anxiously waiting for your Fortnite refund from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), you have two more weeks to claim it. That’s right, the deadline to submit a request for a refund for your child’s in-game purchases is quickly approaching.
The FTC is mailing out more than $126 million to 969,173 Fortnite players in the U.S. who were billed in error for purchasing unwanted items and who submitted a valid claim by February 14, 2025.
If you claimed after February 14, 2025, there is nothing you need to do at this time. Continued claims filed after that date are still being reviewed by the FTC, and they will come up with more information later.
The FTC accused Epic Games, maker of the game Fortnite, of making unsubstantiated claims about the purchase processes in the game, and the company agreed to pay money because of these allegations. The FTC reported that all these were unlawful: the company was overcharging players without notifying them of purchases they did not want, allowed unregulated children to make unauthorized purchases without approval of parents or guardians, and denied certain users access to purchased content when they did manage to object to wrongful charges.
The agreement will also force the company to obtain affirmative authorization before billing the users, and it prohibits it from locking the players out of their accounts in case the player challenges the charge that was not authorized.
It will give you the type of payment that you chose during the process of claiming.
If you get a check, please cash it within 90 days.
In case you receive a PayPal payment, accept the payment within 30 days.
