The original Gears of War game is making a comeback as Gears of War: Reloaded, launching for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X on August 26. For years now, it’s been heavily rumored that Microsoft is working on a Gears of War collection. Gears of War: Reloaded only features the first game, and so it seems those rumors were false.
The latest rumors about the Gears of War collection claimed that it would be announced at the Xbox Games Showcase on June 8 along with confirmation that it would be releasing for PS5 as well. The Gears of War collection may or may not exist, but we do know that Gears of War: Reloaded is coming to PS5, day and date as the Xbox version.

Gears of War: Reloaded is Coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X on August 26
The announcement of Gears of War: Reloaded is likely going to draw mixed reactions from fans. They will likely be happy that the rumors about the remaster ditching Gears of War‘s iconic multiplayer aren’t true, but Xbox gamers may be upset that one of their major exclusives is coming to PS5 on the same day as the Xbox version. Others still may be scratching their heads about why Gears of War: Reloaded is being made at all when an enhanced version of the game already exists in the form of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition. It should be noted, however, that those that own Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will be able to upgrade to Gears of War: Reloaded free of charge.
Gears of War 2 and Gears of War 3 to date only have native Xbox 360 versions available. While both games are playable on modern Xbox consoles through backward compatibility, it seems like it would have made a lot more sense to remaster those titles instead of the original Gears of War. Perhaps if Gears of War: Reloaded does well, then Gears of War 2 and 3 will get similar treatment, but that remains to be seen.
It will be interesting to see if Gears of War: Reloaded starts the trend of Xbox-published games releasing on the same day on PS5 as they do Xbox. It’s possible that the upcoming Gears of War prequel game, Gears of War: E-Day, will follow in Reloaded‘s footsteps, but nothing to that effect has been announced at the time of this writing.
